I don't think I'm at all an expert yet, but here are some tips. There is the mostly unhelpful (but entirely true) "paint more often" advice. I know I cringe when I look back on my first watercolor paintings. Also, a lot of watercolor success comes from luck. Silly, but true. XD Even now, when I mostly know what I'm doing, I'll sometimes end up with something dreadful or sometimes something really good. And you can try new and different things - different brushes, different amounts of water, etc. I hope that helps at least a little!

It's not any special paper. Just the kind you can get in big pads at most stores. Sorry I don't know the exact weight!
